The Fairport Alumni Rugby Team had a great showing at the Dead Ants Rugby Tournament on Saturday. The team faced various men’s club teams and finished 2nd out of 8 teams at the tournament. Fairport finished first in their pool after facing the Barrack’s Rangers (Watertown), Rochester Aardvarks, and the Buffalo Old Boys developemental side (comprised of local college players who live in Buffalo during the summer).  In the finals Fairport faced the Buffalo Old Boys B-side (Buffalo’s A-side did not play in the tournament). Although Fairport was outmatched by Buffalo’s size, speed, and experience, we played tough against a high quality team. The Fairport Roster included Mike Kaseman, Joe Kirsch, Matt Venzin, Kurt Westcott, Patt Kohl, Justin Seidel, Nick Sacheli, Ryan Yanus, Brady Christiansen, Connor Joyce, Mark Harsted, Ian Thomas, Chris Thompson, Josh Curtis, Eric Helbig, Ryan Nolan, Dietrich Pate, Brendan Shannon, and Justin Palardy.

This Saturday the Fairport Alumni Rugby Team will be entering a side in the Dead Ants Rugby Tournament in Batavia. If you are interested in playing, contact Coach Kirsch or Coach Kaseman.

Congratulations to Sean Burke, Andrew Yang, Andy Voter, Tyler Norris, and Matt Zablotny for participating in the Conference All-star game yesterday. Fairport rugby players were the stars of the match in the Rochester All-stars 25-0 win over the Buffalo All-stars. 18 of the 25 points were scored by Fairport ruggers including tries by Burke, Norris and Zablotny (who also had a penalty goal). Voter racked up a large number of tackles and Yang won MVP honors for his excessive work-rate and unstoppable defensive poaching. Yang is “unsung” no more!

For the fourth straight year in a row, the Fairport JV Rugby team won the NYS Rugby Conference U-17 Division. The team finished with a record of 5-1, after avenging their only loss to Kenmore East and defeating McQuaid for a second time this season.

Congratulations to the boys D1 team for defeating McQuaid 20-15 in the NYS Rugby Championship game! The girls finished second losing to Buffalo City Honors in the final.

On Monday June 2nd at 2:30 a tree planting ceremony will take place to honor disceased Fairport ruger Dave “Deuce” Anderson. The cermony will be held in the FHS Memorial Grove. We hope to see all past and present Fairport rugers and family members at the ceremony.

JV will practice at 5pm today at Northside.

Due to SAT testing saturday’s practice is canceled. On Sunday JV players should be at Northside by 12:45, D1 players by 2:15, and D2 players by 4.

The JV game against Kenmore East has been postponed, the make-up date is yet to be determined.
